2019 Blanc de Blancs

Our elegant sparkling Blanc de Blancs is made from the finest Chardonnay grapes grown on the Rathfinny Vineyard. We blend our Chardonnay wines together to produce a unique white wine that undergoes a secondary fermentation in the bottle to produce the delicate bubbles in our Blanc de Blancs.

We are delighted to invite our valued customers to reserve an allocation of our prestigious 2019 Blanc de Blancs at an exclusive case price for a limited time only. Please note, these wines can only be purchased by the case (6 bottles per case), with the minimum order being four cases (24x75cl bottle cases), or a combination of both 2019 Blanc de Blancs and Blanc de Noirs. All wines will be fully dressed with a foil and label prior to release.

The 2019 Blanc de Blancs marks a turning point in our Rathfinny winemaking ethics as all Sussex Sparkling wines from the 2019 vintage onwards will now be classified as vegan. After much deliberation and experimentation, we’ve chosen a vegan-friendly fining agent that does the job perfectly.

TASTING NOTE

A translucent ivory effervescence leads to a decadent nose of Sorrento lemons drizzled over baked brioche, a rich palate of ripe greengage and buttered shortbread with a prolonged, starfruit sherbet finish. 

The Vintage

In 2019 we experienced above average temperatures for most of the year although the picking season was one of the wettest in Rathfinny harvesting history. Our strong team of 200 local pickers harvested 485 tonnes of excellent quality fruit, free from disease and an impressive 19% increase on our 2018 yield.

PRAISE FOR RATHFINNY BLANC DE BLANCS

The recent releases of Rathfinny Blanc de Blancs received very positive reviews. Wine writer, Jamie Goode (wineanorak.com) described the 2016 vintage as: “One of England’s finest. This is all about precision… This is chiselled and focused, but not austere. Really impressive.. and still so early on in the life of the vineyard. 93/100.”

Meanwhile, Tamlyn Currin (JancisRobinson.com) described it as, “Precise and pointed, high cheekbones and leggy and slender but not bony. Long and stretches out to fill every corner of the mouth…This has a wonderful chalk-sculpted core (with a grace note of fine cement dust) that then reaches around lovely depth of fruit.” High praise indeed.

Our most recent vintage release, 2017 Blanc de Blancs has been met with similar high acclaim. Helena Nicklin, wine writer and TV host from The Three Drinkers called this vintage: “A serious wine that’s light on its feet, giving any Blanc de Blanc Champagne a run for its money.”

PAYMENT & DELIVERY DETAILS

The price of the wine is £27 per 75cl bottle (£39.50 RRP). All Rathfinny Reserved wines are sold at ‘under bond’ which means the wines are stored in a secure temperature-controlled cellar and once the wines are released in 2023, excise duty and VAT will be payable. You will be notified when this payment will be required.
